Why do young women go to the tanning beds?

Surely, with all the dangers of skin cancer and accelerated aging caused by excessive exposure being widely publicized, young women would take heart.

Why do young women go to the tanning beds?
old women go, too. (oh, wait, those are young women who went too many times)
Reply:i think its because the celebs are tanned and young girls follow the celeb trend.
Reply:its really relaxing. I'm a very stressed out person and I feel happy when I leave. I've only gone twice but it is. and you get tan from it.
Reply:I used to go, but stopped cause I decided I did not want to look like a raisin when I was 45!

Reply:I have no idea why someone would even think that it would be a good idea b/c i would personally not go to one b/c of the affects that it does to the skin.
Reply:they see what women look like on tv and want to be that not realizing most have sprayed on tans

Reply:Because they are dumb and care more about looking what their social club considers "hot" then about what kind of health consequences there are, or how beautiful their skin naturally is, the way God made it. I used to tan, I don't anymore, its EXTREMELY stupid! Love your skin the way it is, if you've got skin problems treat them, tanning isn't gonna change your condition, it just makes your skin worse. If you want beautiful skin, pamper and care for it, don't fry it!
Reply:They're stupid; its that simple. They put beauty before health. I had a skin cancer scare at 16, after spending a few summers helping my parents work on their house. My sunscreen apparently wasn't strong enough. I ended up with an odd mole after normal sun exposure so I can't imagine why anyone would DELIBERATELY expose themselves to the most intense uv rays possible for the sole purpose of maintaining some "standard of beauty". There are so many scientific facts that these girls don't listen to its unbelievable.
Reply:They do it because they want to look lean and tan. They want to look healthy and glowy. But in the long run, tanning beds are not safe. If some one really wants a tan, then use bronzer or sunless tanning lotions. They will get a person to their desired shade or even darker (but the orange tans look strange).


SO many models, movie stars, and famous people have tans. But I like overseas tans better because they do not look orange. They are more natural looking, brown and olive in color.
Reply:It is because all girls want to improve themelves in any way. We really dont think much about the future. All we care about is now and not protecting our future.
Reply:Young women (and some men) feel they have to live up to an "idealized standard of beauty" that the media constantly pushs on society.





The health risk that are imposed from tanning can be dangerous, but most people rather look good now, then think too far into the future. And most people rather not do the reseach and find out the harms and side affects of tanning because of various reasons (most are just lazy in my opinion).





But its a personal choice of the individual... they can't blame anyone but themselves if something bad happens to them and if they knew the risks before hand.
