Do you think that young, beautiful people make less convincing actors than older or plainer people?

I find young, beautiful, well made up actors and actresses with perfect skin and features (eg. Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johannson) generally less convincing in their parts compared to the likes of Cate Blanchett, Philip Seymour Hoffman, James Gandolfini, and Helen Mirren. Do others agree?

You're right on this one.

I think it's because older actors who don't try and perfect their appearance with make-up just look more like real people in the movies. I mean, you don't see a lot of people with perfect skin, facial features, and pearly white teeth walking around, do you?

It just looks more natural to see actors who are "plainer" than "Barbie-doll" characters.

Good question.
Reply:Yes, I agree. The latter are in the business because they have talent and the former are there mainly for their looks.
