Can a shortage of sleep really affect your skin?

I'm having regular skin break outs (age 35) and have tried everything possible to get to prevent it from happening - yes I've seen my GP but the antibiotics didn't work. Anyway, the only thing that I haven't altered is my sleep - because I'm self employed and have a young daughter I work mornings (other peoples offices) and evenings (home) so the afternoon is hers. This often results in me being up until 1.30am working and then up for work at 6.30am. I do suffer physically, but over time get used to it. However, could this lack of sleep be what is causing my poor skin? Is "beauty sleep" a real thing?

Can a shortage of sleep really affect your skin?
yes and ive seen the proof, missing a night of sleep really messes up my skin i look like ive come back from the dead lol. beauty sleep sure is true. sleep whenever you can and im sure youll see a difference.
Reply:Yes, I have bad skin at age 29. My skin is much better when I get more than 7 hours sleep. Stress in general makes skin worse if you predisposed to it. Also try Dove soap for sensitive skin if you haven't already.
Reply:Lack of sleep and stress can cause ALL SORTS of problems, be it physical or mental.

Reply:See a dermotologist.
Reply:I am 56 (male) and have psoriasis (all over) which I just cannot get rid of. I am on antibiotics ALL THE TIME because my skin breaks open and it gets infected. My kids are grown up now but the youngest (23 female) is at home with us forever because she is autistic and cannot live independently. I sleep about 3 hours a night. My wife has a separate room. I am absolutely passionate about my daughter. My daytime job is as a support worker in a care home for elderly people with dementia and Alzheimers. I get £6.34 an hour. I work a 14 hour day. They need everything doing for them (and i mean EVERYTHING). The only exceptional thing about today is that I had to take my cat to the vets to be put to sleep. We've had him for just over 20 years. The house is so empty.

My skin is crap but when you need to help other people, that is one of the things that may happen.

God bless you.
