What should I do for my skin???

Ok, I'm really bad and I have never used facial moisturizer before. I have severe combination skin! The last year or so I have been getting zits all over my chin and nothing I use seems to get rid of them. On the other hand, my cheeks are so dry. I am going to be turning 30 this month and I realize it's time to do something before I start getting wrinkles. On the good side, I must still look younger because I still get carded and asked if I'm a student when I attend my cousin's high school events.

I want to start doing better but I have no idea what kind of moisturizer to use since I am prone to severe acne on my chin only. I never had this problem when I was a teenager but now I'm making up for it.

Thanks for all serious answers. And I know I should have been taking better care of my skin so don't yell at me, lol. I'm going to do it now and I can't make up for the past.

What should I do for my skin???
My bf uses the nivea for men series, they make his skin soft and doesn't smell girly. He's in his mid-20's, don't have much acne problem except getting a single zit here and there once awhile. However he said when he used to have zits and dry skin in areas, he used Biore moisturizer, it controls the acne pretty well and moisturizes nicely.

good luck

Marks/Scar on skin?

When I was younger I had a few wars on my fingers. I had them removed by a doctor, but now the skin where they cut them is raised and you can tell. I want to know how to get rid of them. Or how much it would be to have them professionally done like cosmetically. I have three of them. all smaller than half inch either way.

Overlapping skin!!?

Ok, I have had 4 kids and alot of stretch marks came with them. I just had my youngest about a month ago. Now, due to the weight loss, my stomach overlaps. I have been noticing that the skin in the middle of the flap is getting sensitive. Now today when I was getting ready to shower I noticed that it was bleeding a little bit. What is causing this, and what can I do to stop this?

Overlapping skin!!?
Its caused by friction of the skin surfaces, its also possible to get fungus infection when the skin is broken (they smell bad so you would know you had one). You need to get the area healed first. Use Eucerin cream (from the chemist) to heal it and then keep the area clean and dry and apply talc to keep it dry during the day.

Why does my skin turn red so easily?

everytime i work out or lift or do some athletic ability or im in a place with a lot of bright lights like a store, my skin gets really red. what is the cause of this? it never happened when i was younger.

Why does my skin turn red so easily?
The capillaries in your skin open up when you exercise. You are increasing blood flow throughout your body, which is good. You are probably also overheating yourself somewhat, because this is a mechanism to circulate blood close to the surface where it can cool off. The benefit of it is that the blood brings more nutrients to your skin while its there.

Reply:If your face gets red, then these are early signs of rosacea.

Symptoms %26amp; Progress Of Rosacea

You may first notice sudden blushing or flushing on the center part of your face. This may spread to other parts of the face such as cheeks and forehead. After some time, this redness becomes permanent. With further development, small papules and pus-filled small spots develop. They look like acne. That is why rosacea is also called adult acne. But unlike acne, there are no blackheads. It is thought that, rosacea is a defect of the facial skin blood vessels.

As rosacea develops, you will observe fine veins red in color appearing on the affected area. They look like spider veins. Apart from depression and anxiety, that are the results of the social embarrassment a patient faces, rosacea can also lead to a red and bulbous nose in men. Many rosacea patients suffer from eye problems. They get a gritty feeling in the eyes and also redness and itching in eyes and eyelids. Sometimes, serious eye problems may develop. It is necessary that a rosacea patient consult the doctor about his/her eyes.

Will I get saggy skin after losing weight?

I'm 21 years old.

5' 7.5"

I weigh 243

I want to lose 113lbs.

The thing I'm worried about is that I lose weight pretty quickly without trying to! If I just watch what I eat and exercise, I lose about 3-5lbs. a week. I weighed 251 in the middle of last week, but after eating light and going to the gym, I'm already down 7 pounds.

When I mention this, people often think it's related to how much I weigh now. However, when I was younger my highest weight was 185 and I dropped down to 163 in about a month with only attending my high school Physical Education class! I had no saggy skin then, but I was 15.

Is it likely that I'll get saggy skin after losing this weight?

Will I get saggy skin after losing weight?
this is hard to answer because everyone is different. you have your age going for you, you're young so your skin should 'snap' back more than someone older.... make sure you're doing resistance (weight) training as well, this will help. No one can say for sure if you will or not, it is possible that you will have loose skin. don't let that deter you though, a bit of loose skin is nothing as compared to the health risks caused by being overweight.
Reply:maybe
Reply:yes you will have excess skin hanging from your arms.
Reply:it depends on the elasticity of your skin, and whether or not you lose the weight too fast. the reason why gastric bypass patients have saggy skin afterward is that they lose the weight SO quick.

i say lose the weight regardless. you can always fix it later. lose it slowly and in a good way.

What is your favorite Dr. Hauschka skin care product?

I have started using the cleansing cream for about a month and already have cleared my complexion of some acne around my nose and flaky skin on my forehead. Because I have sensitive skin I decided to try Dr. Hauschka because of its natural ingredients. It has herbs that seem to react well with my skin: marigold, chamomile, St. John's wort and kidney vetch. I find it refreshing and am using it twice a day - lets hope it makes me look younger!

Here is a link if you've never heard of this brand before: http://www.lilou-organics.com/Scripts/br... - I have had a problem with blackheads but this is tightening my pores and I don't find I'm getting them as often.

Would like to hear suggestions from other people on which products are worth it. Because organic is so expensive I'd rather hear it from another person if they think something is worth it before spending money on products especially when I'm buying it online - I can't find this brand in my local pharmac

Red bumps on skin...?

Hi all;

Well, since this being the summer vacation and we're going off to another country for two weeks this sunday I thought it was time to have my first hair removal methode off my legs and arms (I'm sixteen). I went along with my two younger sisters (15 and 14) to the salon and had it waxed.

The thing is that when I got it it waxed, tiny small blood droplets were appearing on my arms but nothing was there on my legs. The woman said thats its because I have very sensitive skin and all the redness would go away within a day. As for my sisters nothing happened to them except a light shade of pink which disappeared after a few hours. Now I have on my upper arms (the parts closer to the shoulders) tiny red bumps that look like pimples and they are really ichy. Similar bumps but much fewer also appear on my upper chest (although the wax never touched it there) Is this some sort of a reaction and would go away within the next few days or is it a skin disease? I'm really worried pls help

Red bumps on skin...?
Well I doubt very seriously its a skin disease so you can be easy but the itchin i would say it would be your reaction to gettin your hair waxed it happened to me when i got my eyebrows waxed for the first time but i am absolutely clueless on why your upper chest would be itching. Or you can be havin an allergic reaction to a lotion you used after you got waxed and your skin was still irritated hope this helps and you get better b4 your vacation have fun!!!!!
Reply:Sounds like you have ingrown hairs under you arms, they will go away once the hair starts to grow again. For you chest, they might be little pimples from sweating.
Reply:you probably had an allergic reaction to it this happens to me when i touch chillies (i can eat them tough strange) anyway try putting some E45 on it it will calm the itching and treat the reaction also maybe take some anti - histamin (hayfever /allergy medicine as this can reduce rashs and allergic reactions)
Reply:OMG You're gonna die.

You may have Shingles. I actually have it right now and I had no idea what it was. But the symptoms sound just the same, the only problem is may be that if you do not go to your dr to get the right medication, you may have long term nerve damage. I am on pain medication to help with the pain and I use Lysine Cream for the itch! I really hope you go see your dr. I would hate to see you go thru this with out proper treatment! Email me if you want more info and how to treat it :)
Reply:Allergic reaction to the wax. Try another type of wax or threading next time. Go see a dermatologist.she/he might be able to tell you what to use before you leave.
Reply:I just purchased a roll on from a fine salon that is made to be used after waxing, shaving, electrolysis, etc. It reduces the apprearnce of red bumps and ingrown hairs. I have been using it on the outer bikini area after shaving (which has always been full of red dots) and it seems to be helping. It's pricey though, $20 for the roll on. I think it's called PBS or something like that. If you're interested I can get the container and write the actual name.

Reply:Why would you want to be really pale? light medium skin color is beautiful! But if you really want to be pale just wear sunscreen all the time. and for your face you could try to use foundation that is lighter than your natural skin color.... just not too much lighter so it doesn't look fake.
Reply:use lemon only in the night
Reply:You can try these home remedies to remove tan %26amp; lighten skin:

Mix 1 table spoon of milk powder, 1 table spoon of honey, 1 table spoon of lemon juice, and ½ table spoon of almond oil. Apply on face and wash off after 10-15 minutes. This pack helps bring shine to the skin and also removes tan.

Mix oatmeal with curd and tomato juice and apply on the face. Keep it on for 20 minutes and then wash it off with cold water. It helps remove the tan and lightens the skin.

Place sliced raw potato on the face. It helps reduce blemishes and other marks.

Applying turmeric powder along with lime juice removes the tan. Lime juice is natural bleach.

Dried orange peels mixed with curd also help reduce blemishes and scars. Wash off this mixture with cold water after 15 minutes.

Soak 4 almonds overnight. Grind into a fine paste using milk. Apply on face and neck and leave it overnight. Wash with cold water in the morning. Do this daily for 15 days, followed by twice a week.

A table spoon of gram flour mixed with 2 table spoon of raw milk and 2-3 drops of lime juice works well for lightening dark skin. Apply this mixture and leave it for 15 minutes before washing off. Repeat for 4 weeks and follow up with once a week.

Apply a paste of fresh ground mint leaves and leave it for about 20 minutes. Wash with cold water, continue for 15 days.

Apply a mixture of grated tomato with 2-3 drops of lime juice on the face. Leave it for 20 minutes before washing off. Do this twice a day for 15-20 days for best results.
Reply:there's nothing wrong with getting lighter skin to improve one's self-esteem.. but getting pale is kinda.. awful?.. maybe what you meant was plainly to get soft, white skin.. plus i think you need a sunscreen tip on what really works for UVA rays, and what doesn't.. a good sunscreen is the key to maintaining your desired color.. ok, so here's where to go -

Does tanning when your young affect your pigment and make it permanent?

I am 25 years old now and tan. I was on my schools swimming team and soccer team from 1st grade to 8th grade. I would get burned by the sun every day and would get really dark..really dark. When I stopped , I got lighter compared to before but still tan.My aunts would always tell me that I was really fair skinned when I was a baby and before I started my swimming ang soccer. Is it possible to affect how your skin will come out when you get older by what you do when you were younger?

Does tanning when your young affect your pigment and make it permanent?
Of course, every skin type varied, but the more sun exposure you have the more the melanin in your skin has been "activated." However this also means that you may have sun spots that might show when you are older. It's very important to put sunscreen on 365 days a year no matter what the weather is. If you are active, it's all the more important to reapply the protection.
Reply:yes, the sun is always the culprit, giving exposed skin sunburn (tanning) and sun damage (aging or freckling).. my original skin tone is fair too, and i've maintained it thru the use of skin lighteners and sunscreen because i love my real skin color.

How to get lighter and pinker skin?

Do eating or using tomatoes work, or drinking alot of water? Is there any creams I can buy that will work? I want my skin to be naturally whiter and rosier like i was when i was younger. thanksss

How to get lighter and pinker skin?
fruits, vegetables and water will make your skin glow, but not lighten it.. i've maintained my original fair color successfully now after several attempts on non-working products that promised to deliver results, whether homemade or branded.. believe me, your original skin tone wont come back if you just rely on time because people cant just stay indoors in order to live, study, work or enjoy.. life should go on, right?.. so here's what you can do:

use safe (no hydroquinone, mercury or steroids because these harm the skin after long term use) AND potent (unlike most commerical products that dont work or show little results) skin lighteners from a reputable source.. here's a good one -

http://www.arizona4pinoys.com/best-skin-...

wear a high spf (50 or better) sunscreen to protect from further darkening and sun damage.. sunscreens are a must whether you're in a skin lightening regimen or not.. it's your best defense to aging and wrinkling of skin..

continue eating healthy foods, plus an intake of at least 500 mg vit. C supplement t enhance your skin color and inhibit the production of melanin (brown pigments found in skin)..

that's your best bet.. i've done it.
Reply:Most of what you can try won't work.

Paint might but I'm not sure that's such a good idea, you might also look into whatever Michael Jackson used but that might also not be the best idea around.

Or just live with what you've got.
Reply:i think you should try wearing total sunblock every day, even on cloudy days. that way your skin will not get any tan at all.

also, you may want to try speeding things up by using a whitening moisturizer designed for lightening skin pigmentation. not sure, but it could work
Reply:Avoid excess sun.

Too little sun is not good, so do not avoid it completely, as this will make your skin hyper sensitive.

There are no topical products that remove tans safely.

Do not use bleach!

Most acidic fruits will not harm your skin, but they will not lighten it either.

Proper hydration is definitely good for general health and the condition of skin. However, drinking copious amounts of water taxes kidneys and is not good for anything. It certainly will not lighten skin.

The natural tanning agent in the skin is called melanin. It is the skin's defense against UV radiation. It will not go away until you successfully avoid UV radiation for a period of time.

Time is the answer. Don't try to accelerate the body's natural responses. You will likely exacerbate problems.

Nature is wise. Listen to her.

Be patient, or you might end up as a doctor's patient!

I have very fair skin and am thinking about tanning salons....?

I'm not sure what to expect or if I can even tan that well... I use to be somewhat tan when I was younger because I was carefree and was always outside and didn't care what people thought of me. For the past several years I have been increasingly self conscious about my fair skin. I don't want to be very tan, I would just like a healthy skin tone that I feel comfortable to where shorts with. I've tried the sunless tanners, but they smell and don't work very well...

I suppose my question is, what do I expect from a tanning salon? and anyone else with very fair skin, how long does it take to get a good color going?

thanks =)

I have very fair skin and am thinking about tanning salons....?
it is only bad for your skin if you do it wrong. if you have a planet beach tanning salon go there they are great! and if you don't want to do a tanning bed you can do there mystic tan it looks really good either way! and if you do mystic only one time will give you a good tan and the beds two or three times most likely.
Reply:Don't do it. Bad for your skin.
Reply:The general process involves you climbing into an enclosed chamber where you will lie for a specified period of time. The person in charge of the tanning beds will then set a time limit for your first session. Usually each session is increased by two-minute intervals. Most beds are equipped with fans so you won't feel too heated. Most tanning salons start to offer bargains during the summer months (since people can go outside and do it for free).

While this is a great way to get a tan without worrying too much about burning, there are some precautions you'll want to take:

Make sure the tanning salon has a disinfecting policy. Lots of people will be in the tanning chambers sweating away so if the salon doesn't disinfect your skin could easily become irritated.

Make sure that the salon has you fill out a Skin Type Analysis Form. This is a simple form that takes less than a minute to fill out. The form is used to determine how your skin reacts to tanning.

If you're taking medications, be sure to tell the salon staff. They may affect your sensitivity to the tanning beds.

Get a pair of FDA regulated goggles. Don't worry about getting raccoon eyes. The goggles protect the eyeball and since the eyelids don't tan, you won't be able to notice you had them on. Depending upon the salon, you'll either need to buy these beforehand or you'll be able to borrow a pair at the front desk, so call ahead to find out the salon's policy.

One quick note: Tanning beds are far from being skin-friendly. In fact, most health experts agree that the use of tanning beds increases a person's risk of skin cancer. When a person uses a tanning bed, more layers of the skin are damaged than when a person gets a tan from just being out in the sun. Still, if you're willing to take the risk with your skin, tanning beds do offer some benefits. You'll be able to control what kind of ultraviolet light your skin receives, you won't get sunburned, and your progress will be monitored.

5. CONSIDER APPLYING A SELF-TANNER

Fake tanners have gotten a really bad rap over the years and for good reason: they can look fake. Luckily, these products have gone through significant improvements in recent years. The new brands of self-tanners are virtually streak-proof, and some even come with built-in SPF. Self-tanners do not injure the skin and you'll be able to pick out the exact shade of tan you want. There are a bunch of options available in self-tanners. You can choose between gels, lotions or sprays. Be careful though. Just because your skin will be golden, doesn't mean you won't burn. So keep applying that sunscreen whenever you go in the sun.

Applying a self-tanner is virtually idiot proof. How else do you think all those pro wrestlers get that bronzed look? If they can do it, so can you.

The first thing you'll need to do is exfoliate. For those of you who don't subscribe to Vogue, this simply means getting rid of all the dead cells on your body. This will help the tanner to go on more evenly. To exfoliate, merely go to a beauty supply store or drug store and get an exfoliation kit or loofah sponge.

Make sure your body is completely dry before applying the tanner. If there is any moisture, the tanner may come out blotchy.

Try to find a brand that you can see going on (read: the cream itself should be colored, not clear) so that you won't miss any areas.

The next thing you'll have to do is apply the tanner:

Get a pair of surgical gloves, preferably latex - they'll help keep your hands from getting stained.

If applying a cream, use upward strokes on all of the body except the chest area.

For the chest, horizontal strokes will help keep the coverage balanced.

To avoid dark stripes, use less of the tanner on joints such as the knees and the elbows.

Wait about 20 - 25 minutes, and you'll look like you've been sun bathing for days. Besides, with all the hours you'll save not having to bake yourself in the sun, you'll have time for more important endeavors such as breaking into that 6-pack. Oh, it's now a 3-pack? Good - you learn fast.

Just got this off a website, I think you will tan just fine but since you're fair skinned make sure you don't look too artificial or orange. best thing is to call the place and ask.

also read this, i think it's important:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Reply:go to a spray tanning place....for your own safety and also to prevent premature wrinkles.....from excess exposure.
Reply:Get neutrogena self tanner. It will give you some color without aging you prematurely. Wrinkles, age spots and skin cancer are not cute.
Reply:Well for starters, it depends on the quality of the tanning salon you go to. Make sure it's not one of those hole-in-the-wall places, some of those are a bit gross. Like you, I was darker when I was younger then started getting self-concious too. So one day I decided to go w/ my friend Tiffany to a tanning salon called Tan Shak. I came out VERY red! But the second time I tanned I used this tanning lotion called Triple Shot, and i didn't burn again, and it increased my tan a lot. I used to go tanning a lot and when I did I would use Triple Shot every other time so I wouldn't have that orangish tint! But then I decided to just embrace my natural tone and work with what I got, tanning gives you wrinkles faster too, and I def. don't want that. So if you want to be a lil darker, but stay healthy like I decided, just go tanning once a month or every month and a half and use a good tanning lotion, if you use a moisturizer that helps your tan stay every day then it will last longer too.

Reply:Here's a link with info from the FDA about tanning salons. If you're interested in increasing your chances of getting skin cancer, go right ahead, but if you just want a tan, Neutrogena has a great spray tanning product that develops in a few hours, doesn't stain clothing, and looks natural.
Reply:I know exactly how you feel. The tanning salon is a good idea. I wouldn't over due it though. Since you just want a little color I think it is okay. I'm very fair also and the tanning beds work for me. The first time you use a bed, only go in for like 10 minutes, then skip a day and then go again, then go in for 12 minutes or something like that. Just be careful because you may think your not getting red,but then a couple hours later the redness shows up. I can go about five times and have a light tan. Good luck and be careful.
Reply:I would just say try sun tanning, tanning salons can cause cancer and ugly burns. Theres no reason you should be self conscious about your fair skin, lot's of people would love to have it. Good luck with your tan! %26lt;3Cassie

Question regarding skin moles?

Hi i live in the northeast so i'm in the sun only 2-3 months a year. i've had a mole on my back since i was probably 10 or younger and first got it looked at around then, the dermatologist said it was bengign. I went back this past july (im 16) since my mole grew a little because obviously i grew alot but still it needed to be checked out. the dermatologist said it was benign but i should have it taken off. she didnt really specify why i was in a bit of a panic (i started crying immediatley on the spot because i thought i had skin cancer). she said i should have it taken off at the end of summer. i didn't show for the appointment due to anxiety and a my sisters graduation.. but now its kind of slipped my mind. do you think i'm in major trouble? i plan to go soon to get it taken off but i'm so scared i have skin cancer!!!! and that there going to tell me i have 2 weeks to live or something! YES i am a worry wart if you were wondering!

Question regarding skin moles?
I had a mole removed from my hand two days ago. It appeared suddenly 2 years ago and it been growing ever since. As soon as i showed the doc they took it off cause they think its cancerous. It doesnt hurt feels like i cut myself its not bad at all. The doctor said if it nnot cancerous then fine. If it is they will check if is removing it will most likely cureit but they will check my lymph under my arm. If it haspread they will give one dose of chemotherapy and worst case scenario remove the lymph node under my arm. No matter how it turns out i wont die or need alot of treatment. You should just go and dont worry about it.
Reply:at age 16, this is unlikely to be skin cancer, but your dermatologist is recommending that you remove it because you said "it grew a little." Have it removed, then forget about it. It's benign, so once it's gone, you never have to have it checked again. Hope it helps some.
Reply:IMO if the doctor thought it was a cancer, she would have told you right away. Pigmented moles (brown colored) are statistically more likely to turn 'bad' so probably she recommended its removal in terms of being cautious. Don't worry, it is a very simple procedure, they use a local and usually only need a few stitches. I have had several removed in the past, they were OK when checked out, but I feel better not having them around. Good luck.
Reply:Don't be afraid. The doctor told you twice that it is benign.

All the physician will do is inject novacain into the skin around the mole and slice it off. I've had this done. My family develops benign moles on their neck and back.

It will be better to get it removed because your back will look better and the mole will not be irritated by your clothing.

Skin cancer is not a death sentence even if you did have it.

It's good you had it checked out. Make another appointment and show up. Take someone with you. It will be over before you know it. Just do it. OK? Not to worry.

What can I use to repair my skin?

I've been using sunblock 50 uva/uvb for maybe 3 years now I've been using 60 for atleast 4 months, I take calcium and vitamin c. I stay out of the sun and wear a big hat and gloves when I am out.

I've used a lot of products vitamin c serum by avon, the peel pads, ance pads, olaydefinity, aveen radiant lotion, neutrogena.

I've been getting freckles or maybe age spot never had before and my tan is taking a long time to completely fade it does not match my body although I cover up, it's not bad but it's still there makes me look much older, I'm only in my early 20's. I read that spots, dry skin, rosecea, fine lines, show up because of unprotected sun exposure, when I was younger I didn't use sunblock but my tan would fade away. I tried retin a, can't use hydroquinone wondered what a good method to get healthy skin back and prevent freckles or reverse sundamage? what products? I don't putting food or using make up as a soultion. thanks

What can I use to repair my skin?
Seems like you're on the right path. I would add daily MSM along with your Vitamin C supplements though. MSM helps Vitamin C (and Vitamin E, actually) absorb more. Daily supplement of CoenzymeQ10 would be good too.

Topical Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) is suppose to help stimulate collagen and as you may know, it's an antioxidant as well. However, I was trying to find Avon's Vitamin C serum right now but couldn't find much about it. Is the Vitamin C in this product L-Ascorbic Acid? L-Ascorbic Acid is the only Vitamin C that's the most beneficial to the skin. Other Vitamin C serums, such as those from Obagi, Cellex-C, and SkinCeuticals are a lot more expensive but also, much more better in protecting and healing the skin.

By the way, Vitamin C serums shouldn't last you a couple of months. Oxidation is a problem with Vitamin C. Once oxidized (color turns yellow / amber), it is no longer effective. That's why you should look for Vitamin C serums that are clear. Vitamin C serums with color are worth nothing.

So, for Vitamin C, look for:

- L-Ascorbic Acid as the main ingredient

- Clear color

%26amp; try to avoid water-based ones (like with Hyaluronic Acid) as that hastens the oxidation process

Aside from that, the best thing you can do (instead of using a ton of different products ... like i use to) is just make your skin care regimen simple and have patience. I use to worry a lot with my skin problems and spent so much money on different products (most, which were crap) and in all honesty, all I had to do from the start was just wait. Sunblock (or sunscreen) along with a quality Vitamin C serum are essential. Eat healthy, drink lots of water, use a pH balanced cleanser and an extra tip, Emu Oil is great as a moisturizer! :)

Reply:My friend owns this company. Just give it a try I PROMISE you will not be dissapointed www.perfectcomplexion.net- Good luck!
Reply:Avon has a new product called Photoradiance that is supposed to reverse sun damage. You could check it out.
Reply:There is a great product called ProActive and it really works. It is a three step acne treatment it helps redness. it repairs cleanses and renews your skin.
Reply:WOW it seems like u use everything!! maybe u should ask your doctor . u may have a disorder or something!! i hope u find what u want!!! i use Clearasil face wash and that's keeps your face clean but i don't know of anything that undoes tans. sorry!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
Reply:You must use RoC products. They're a little more expensive than other age diminishing treatments, but totally worth it. You can find them at CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens. I started using these products in my early 20s. I was paranoid about premature aging as well. A 42 year-old coworker who had been using the products for years recommended them to me. The whole time I worked with her I thought she was about 28 years old because she looked so flawless. Also, don't use peel pads and acne pads they're too rough on your skin, specially around the eyes. You don't want to damage the sensitive skin areas. RoC Also has a great face wash that won't dry your skin out. You'll notice a difference in weeks after using these products.
Reply:I read once that butter milk will fade those freckles. The microdermabration will work at getting the old skin off so that new skin will grow. New skin doesn't have pigment so your best bet is to loose a few layers to loose the tan. But most of it is going to be time. But keep using lotion when using the microderm because with that you do get new skin but you loose the natural oil. Talk to someone in marykay or avon and they have stuff they can bring to your home and you can talk with them and they are trained to know what you should use.
Reply:I have some melasma and or hyperpigmentation in spots on my face as well; and I have tried almost every product out there; it's exhausting. I have found some products that I am happy with: I use a microdermabrasion product by Kiehls, and the new laser serum from Avon, and sunscreen. I also try to get a micro derm or a glycolic peel twice a month. Good Luck.
Reply:SPF 50 may be too much for u if u r not staying outdoor for a long time (like keep exposed under the sun for several hrs). if u r only at the outdoor on the way to work/home, SPF 25~30 is really enough. wearing products w/ high SPF all the time would only cause breakouts on ur skin. %26amp; those UVprotection products sometimes do not last for the whole day %26amp; may be worn off with ur sweat or oil. so probably u can re-apply a thin layer before you go home from work / school at the end of a day.

there r lots of brightening (or whitening) products over the counter. Lancome (BLANC EXPERT), Shiseido (White Lucent), Dior (Dior Snow), Biotherm (PURE BRIGHT), etc. they mostly have the essense or serum that r specialized at working on dark spots but usually u won't c any visible result after keep using it for several months so u have to be patient on that.

there's another tip that u may try %26amp; that may save u some $ from buying expensive masks -%26gt; use brightening toner / liquid lotion to deeply moisten a piece of disposable facial cloth (those that u use to put on toner or to remove makeups) %26amp; put it on ur entire face (then u may need more than 1 piece) or concentrate on ur freckles. leave that for 10-15 min. u can do it everyday for the 1st week and do it 3-4 times a week thereafter. a good brightening toner w/ hydrating function would be even perfect to lighten ur dark spots while hydrating ur skin %26amp; improve ur problems on fine lines. (**note: do not use toner that is for oily skin coz they usually contain alcohol %26amp; may dry out ur skin)

hope that may help u a bit~ :)

I'm worried about skin cancer. Can anyone tell me if they think I am at major risk?

I have been recently worrying about skin cancer, sunspots, etc. I'm very fair-skinned. I haven't been out in the sun much recently, but I was outside more when I was younger (I'm 15 now.) Although I usually put on sunscreen, I did get a pretty bad sunburn when I was in middle school. All of my other sun burns have been fairly mild. I'm just concerned that some of those sunburns will catch up to me. I haven't been outside much the past few years, which is why I'm very pale at the moment. I've always been fair-skinned and have burned easily. I'm going to try to stay out of the sun as much as possible, although I do have a bit of a sunburn at the moment. I've NEVER tanned in a tanning salon or just layed out to try to tan. Can anybody help me and possibly give me more information so I can see how much at risk I am? Thanks!

I'm worried about skin cancer. Can anyone tell me if they think I am at major risk?
Like the others said yes your at risk. Every sunburn you have gotten has damaged the cells in your skin, a bad one or just a little pink one did. The best advice is not to worry but use sunscreen year around because even if its 30 below if the sun is shining it can affect your skin. So wear good sunscreen. I know this because, I am only 35 and my dermatologist is shocked at my skin, I don't have a lot of wrinkles but I have a condition that they only usually see in 70 year olds. I have had my share of skin cancer too. I grew up in Southern California and the sun blaring all the time. Don't make the same mistake. I applaud you at 15 being concerned about your skin. I wouldn't worry about skin cancer yet, take the precautions of sun screen, and check your skin for any moles, freckles or discoloration. If you can go to the dermatologist that would be great too. With fair skin or dark skin they still say to wear sunscreen year around. I hope this helps a little bit.
Reply:If you have freakles, birth marks and light skinned, then you should regularly check your self in your local doctor. I am light skin and all 2 and i take high levels of Vitamin C and D. That is thought to keep back the growing of skin cancer. I use to burn but since i've been taking the Vitamin C, D and also my Multi Vitamins from GNC, i am starting to Tan a bit. You should try it to see how it will work with you. Good Luck.
Reply:If you've had sun poisoning, you may have a slightly higher risk. Use a lotion every day with an SPF of 15 or more; if you go in the sun, use a sunblock of 30+, even 60, and see if it blocks both UVA %26amp; UVB rays. If you wear makeup, use one with sunscreen of SPF15 %26amp; up (mine is a 17, by L'Oreal). I've known people who tanned great, never burned, and got melanoma. Keep an eye on your freckles %26amp; beauty marks; if you have a lot, have your doctor or dermatologist go over them to get a baseline look. If you see any weird changes in a mole or beauty mark, ask your doctor to have a look. Also, by using sunscreen every day, you're helping to prevent wrinkles! And you can still enjy the summer!
Reply:Skin cancers can be very slow moving. It could be decades before you see signs. So be vigilant. Just having fair skin is a risk factor. Get checked regularly, and look for any changes yourself.

Are Most Light skin African American Male's Mix?
there is a good chance that someone in your family is white. it is a shame that you will probably never know for 100% sure though, but at least you were adopted by a very nice family and have a good life, right? sure, it sucks not knowing, but things could have certainly turned out much worse for you. focuse on the good things in your life rather than the negatives and think about the family that you have now, not the one that you dont know.
Reply:Nope
Reply:no black people come in all colors. there are light skinned black people in africa, and they are not mixed, same here in america. just being light skinned does not make you mixed, although lots of black people in america have other races in them. there are balck people who are not light skinned who are mixed with other races. it all shows up differently in different people. you could be mixed, but the only way to know for sure is to find out who you're natural parents are.
Reply:You are worrying about nothing ...who cares ..would you rather no that some has your back regardless of the color of his her skin...ya think ?

I have a skin irritation under my nose...what could it be?

I have really red skin under my, it looks almost like chapped skin, acne, or a slight rash. it itches kinda and the skin is dry and kind of flaky sometimes. It has been there for quite some time now. Ever since I was about 12 and now I'm 18. It was BARELY noticable when I was younger, but now within this last year it is becomming more noticable and is getting more annoying. Does any one got some kind of an idea of what this could possibly be? Please help because it's bothering me very bad!

best thing to do
Reply:I think I might know what it is. Have you been blowing your nose lately? If so, that is a rash that is irritated because the tissue keeps rubbing against you. Maybe your nose has been running, that irritates the skin also. It is probably a slight rash.I would suggest putting neosporin on it or Vaseline. Just in case it ever gets too chapped always carry a chap stick in your purse. Some people have a white rash around their lips. This is caused by chapped lips or dry skin, you might start getting this, but it is not a huge deal. If it starts spreading around your face, you might have acne. The best thing to do would be to go to a helpful dermatologist. They would know what to do to help you! If you live in a cold place, this might be dry skin. If it is really bothering you try to put lotion on the itching part. Also, you might have eczema. Here is a quick column about eczema.

Remember, area between nose and upper lip is considered 'Dangerous zone of face', as it has potential retrogate connections with brain cavities fluid system.

However, Ur case seems non-serious.

Chill pill n show a doctor, dear!
Reply:From your description it sounds like it may be eczema. I have eczema in the exact same place, and during flare-ups, it looks pretty much like you described.

As most of the responders have said, see a doctor. The only thing that's been able to control my eczema has been prescription medication, so if you want to treat it, you will need to see a professional.

If it is indeed eczema, sorry to say there is no cure for it, but finding out what it is the first step to accepting it. The medication, however, would help reduce the appearance of the rash, sometimes making it disappear completely until your next flare-up.

Weird skin condition?

Well, I'm not sure what's going on, but lately my skin is becoming lighter as I spend more time in the sun. When I was younger, I used to become darker, and was told that the pigments were rising because of the sun rays. Is the reverse affect happening to me?

Weird skin condition?
Might be whats called hypopigmentation.... stay outta the sun.. or get skin cancer.. up to you... I mean really would you lay out beside a nuke reactor core just cuz? UV radiation isnt much different.. its still radiation.. sun or booth.. UVA UVB..

Skin Outbreak... Need Quick Advice and Help.?

Last week, I found an oval-shaped spot on the right side of my body, by my ribcage. It was dry and slightly flaky around the spot, and the inside was rough, like when a person scrapes the skin and it scabs over a little.

I thought nothing of it, because I had been poked %26amp; prodded by my younger relatives so I thought I had gotten hurt.

This week, I discovered that there were at least four more that appeared on the same side, all much smaller but having characteristics as the first.

Yesterday, two more happened- one on each breast. I actually got to see how this happened: a raised, pink spot appears, then becomes slightly hollowed in the middle, hardens over, and darkens.

Today, I found one that erupted on my stomach %26amp; one on the left side of my back. I'm starting to feel a little itchy where the new ones showed up, but the largest one itches a little too.

The Internet says that this may be something called "Pityriasis-rosea", but I need SERIOUS advice. Can anyone help me?

Pale skin, green eyes, black hair on a guy?

I used to have quite low self-esteem when I was younger, but over the years I developed more confidence in myself. This question is really just for me to get an idea as to what girls like. I'm 18, 6'2, black hair, green eyes, pale skin. My dad's italian and my mom's not...he's dark, but my mom is whiter than snow, and that's where I get my skin from.

When my hair is long it gets very very curly, but when it's cut short it's straight; that's how I have it now.

What I'd like to know is should I try to get a little more sun and darken myself up a bit? Yeah yeah I know about the risks.

So what do you think?

Pale skin, green eyes, black hair on a guy?
i think u should stay like that

ur fine just like that

plus u got the eyes hair so they go good
Reply:i dont know. you sound fine as you are.

would you even get darker in the sun, I know most pale people just burn.

its all a matter of personal preference. I for one, like darker skin on guys, especially when paired with green eyes.

EDIT: you look fine now, you don't look that pale. you can try some self tanner and see what it looks like? unless it's not 'manly' to use self tanner.

Dry Skin......plus its sensitive...?

I have sensitvie very dry skin i want a lotion or remedy please....my oldest son has egsima and when i was pregnant with my youngest son i had the pregnant rash plus i have shingles and im only 25 so what can i do for my skin i cant go to a dermatologist

Dry Skin......plus its sensitive...?
My daughter in law and my nephew both have eczema. They use a product called Eucerin...it works great. I worked with cardboard for years on my job and have very dry hands. I use it all the time......love it....don't use anything else. If you decide to try it, get the cream in the jar. For some reason the lotion dosen't work as well.
Reply:Go to the beauty counters in Boots or the big dept. stores and ask them for their advice and get some samples. Then get your product at half the price on Ebay.

I know my friend has v. sensitive skin and she uses the Dermalogica products, they work for her but everyone is different, you prob need to get advice.
Reply:Try using a lotion that does not have any perfumes. Not sure how much money you want to spend but Aveda products are great for dry skin. One bottle of lotion is about 20 bucks.

On another note, try something natural-vaseline or aloe vera. Use it everyday and you will see a difference.
Reply:Aveeno lotion has worked well for me. Target sells a Target brand generic of it -- as it is pricey. Oatmeal baths (again Aveeno sells this product). Baths with baby oil for you -- not for baby.

See the site below TALK ECZEMA.

Good luck.
Reply:I recommend you the smooth perfection cream from ponds. I have use their products for 3 months i they work really well.
Reply:Cetaphil creams and lotions are sold at the drugstore and are very gentle on the skin. Also Aveeno products as mentioned in an earlier answer contain colloidal oatmeal which is very soothing to the skin. You can find Aveeno at most any grocery or drugstore and it does come in a "generic". Make sure you do not use any type of soap when you bathe, only products specifically for sensitive skin. Another product that has worked very well for me is Burt's Bees Buttermilk lotion. You can also find this at drugstores. Good Luck!

Paler skin??

Hey guys, I was wondering is there any way to make my skin more fair?? I already have a porcelian skin tone, but I want to get rid of some scars, acne marks, and freckles (In my younger days I tried to tan, and just ended up with freckles)? I know to stay out of the sun, I wear sunscreen lotion daily. I would like to hear some home remedies if possible.

Thanks.

Paler skin??
The freckles will go away when you get older. My parents had freckles and now they don't have any so maybe they will go away. Acne marks, I have a ton. Find some light powder foundation, it will cover up the scars, acne marks, and the freckles. It could also make your skin look more fair.
Reply:If you want to be fairer, drink daily half cup of juice of raw turmeric and apply a mixture of not boiled milk, raw turmeric, honey and kesar(in Hindi). Then take a bath after some time. It will definitely work.
Reply:you might need a good skin lightening cream to treat dark problem areas for fast results.. here's a good source for safe and potent products -

Is there another skin problem like acne?

I had acne when i was younger and one of my friends had this home remedy so i used it and then within 2 months my face exploded. It looked like acne but it wasn't, it was really red, itchy and it looked as though i had racoon eyes because it was normal skin around my eyes. People would comment saying what happened to your face. I went on accutane for two years and it mostly cleared up but my skin is still very weird feeling and looking and i still have the racoon look, i also have very tiny white heads if anything and my skin is bumpy too. My skin is still red, i've seen various dermatologists, but they just want to put me back on accutane... helpp

Is there another skin problem like acne?
There are several different skin disorders and skin problems out there. I personally have Acne, Eczema, Dermatitis, Psoriasis, and redness of skin. Yeah, I have a lot of skin problems. Your racoon eyes may be hereditary, stress, or lack of sleep, suggestion change your diet and get some sleep. Drink plenty of milk, eat lots of chicken, and eat foods rich in vitamins.

Nit picking because i'm dark skin women?

i don't understan why me and my twin sister have been picked on because we are tall ,thin and dark skinned women we are 32 year old women but we look really young about 23.we each have children 3 for me and 4 for her.my kids are 11,10,(girls) and 2 1/2 son her kids are 13,10,17 month old girl (girls) and she has 1 son 8.way before we had children people picked on me and twin sister calling crackhead, ugly and cruel junior high high school and grown men and grown women and then whwen we confront these people they get amnesia like they don't know what were talking about.what should i do i have tried ignoring all i can .i take bus whatever i have to go.were tired of the giggling and laughing ****.i never had a felony but i believe i'm going to end up with one .me and my twin sister are good going women and we have good hearts and we are well known by people who like us.so why is the world messing with us like we are singled out.i hate to leave my house.i weigh 100 and my twin weigh 125 .

Nit picking because i'm dark skin women?
Everyone, and I do mean everyone has been or will be picked on for something that others see as a flaw, or what is not the "norm" of our very superficial society. Being a Black woman in this country is difficult enough without having to be criticized for your appearance. However, one of the most beautiful things about black women are their ability to stand out in a crowd of same old same old boring white faces. When you see a picture of 9 white faces and 1 black face, your eyes are immediately drawn to the black person. Because your children will undoubtedly see you being insulted and ridiculed in public, it will be of the utmost importance for you to ignore this behavior, hold your head high, and be proud of your beautiful black skin. Arguing and making a scene to verbally attack the person ridiculing you will not only make you look ridiculous, but will also stereotype you.
Reply:don't worry about those superficial things..live your life with your head up..living well is the best revenge...let the haters be the motivators...
Reply:Becasue the world is a cruel place, and people have to pick on other people to make themselfs better. just let it roll of your back. You know you guys are good people and good parents so dont worry about what they are saying.
Reply:people are only doing to you what you allow them to do . ignoring is the best thing , i understand it is hard but your only other option would be to walk right up to them and ask them why they are laughing ..which could end up in a fight and you could end up with charges which isn't good for you or your kids...i look at it this way ..if my looks or the way i live my life helps anyone keep their minds off of their unhappy lives even if only for a few minutes that allows them to laugh a little then so be it i was glad i made someones day ... and besides that live your life and screw the rest
Reply:people r cruel and they see it getting to u so they run with it people who do that normally hate themselves fo some reason anyway its truly sad

Sudden change in condition of skin...?

Hey I have had great skin (talking about face now) all my life that I am more than grateful for. Very recently though, I have got quite an oily t-zone. I am almost 21, and usually this happens when you are younger and ends by now. But this is the first "problem" I am having with my skin ever, so I don't know what to do. I always wash my face twice a day, once with cold water and once using a cleanser. Then I always use a moisturizer which I haven't changed in about 3 years, cuz it works so good on my skin. Point is, I follow the same regimen and same products, but my skin is pretty oily now and i can feel it when i swipe my forehead. Any ideas how to fix or prevent this? I don't eat oily junk foods, but I haven't been able to hit the gym in the past 2 or 3 weeks, is that a factor? Please help thanks. :)

PS: I use no facial makeup, only eyeliner and occasionally eyeshadow when I go out.

Sudden change in condition of skin...?
I am 21 too and I had the same problem. I still couldn't tell you why it happened all I know is what you can do to help the problem. I started using Artistry's Balancing System for oily skin and it works great. It will control oil all day. It's really cool because it's guarenteed to work or they'll give you all of your money back so if you try it and decide you don't see a difference you aren't losing anything; that's what I thought was really cool. Anyway it works great and I really think you'd like it just as much if you try it. I will give you the direct link so you can check it out and even buy it if it sounds like what you are looking for

The whole system last's about 2 months because it is very concentrated so you only need to use a little each time. I hope this answered your question :)

Reply:Everybodys skin is different i know my face started getting oily recently too and im 20 now. all i can say is maybe try some new skin care because your skin changes through out your life and drink tons of water its great for your skin as well. good luck! -=D
Reply:Your skin is just changing. Last time I got a facial, she told me that your skin will change several times in your lifetime.

You may want to consider updating your regimen and products. I think the message boards on acne.org are an excellent place to get skin advice (even if you're just oily and not breaking out). Just don't combine a whole bunch of "oily skin" products, because they can be really drying and make your face even more oily.

Expanded Skin during Circumcision.?

My parents didn't get me circumcized until I was 13, because they were afraid that I would get an infection at a younger age.

However, when the surgery did take place, I had to return to the hospital a few days after it and the doctor told me I had a very small infection and that I shouldn't worry. My penis now has the skin on the shaft expanded (Theres just a bunch of extra skin there from the swelling) and I get no pleasure, whatso ever from masturbating anymore until I climax.

Does anyone know if theres such a surgery to reduce skin on the penis? (Besides what I already got :P)

Expanded Skin during Circumcision.?
Reduced pleasure and masturbation difficulty are side effects of circumcision. =P

Your concern would best be answered by the doctor/hospital that did the circumcision.
Reply:why dont you go to a hospital and ask that might work : )
Reply:You're parents should have taught you to clean under your foreskin when you bathe/shower with soap and water then they would be No problems with infections.

Some parents are very lazy and don't seem to teach their children how to keep there bodies clean. they love to have children but when it comes to teaching to talking to their children about proper hygiene they find the easy way out.

I'm sorry that you have to go thought this at a such a young age. the best thing is to ask your doctor to see if they can correct the problem which they screwed it up in the first place.

Good Luck! In this matter, feel better soon...
Reply:They haven't done a proper job.

If done correctly there is no extra skin.

I would see another surgeon to fix it ASAP.

Sex with that extra skin is no fun.

Sky.
Reply:Tell that doctor and your parents that they had better worry about that "small infection" this is the only penis you have, or ever will have That "small infection" has got to be taken care of before it does any more damage than that mutilating doctor has done already.

You do not have any "extra skin" or anything else on your penis. The only extra thing you have ever had on your penis was that doctors hands and knife, those are what didn't belong on you penis.

Masturbation will never be as good for you as it was, too many nerves have been removed. Intercourse should be somewhat better than masturbation is, at least for a few years, until your glans looses most of it's sensitivity from being exposed all the time.

I would recomend you look into non-surgical restoration of your foreskin. With a "loose" mutilation and your young age you should be able to get back enough "foreskin" to cover and protect your glans from bening totaly desensitised. This will at least make sexual intercourse better for both you and your partner.

When they mutilated your penis you lost as many nerves as you have in all ten of your finger tips. That loss is bound to reduce the pleasure you will recieve from masturbation and sex. To say that this will make sex better is like saying you can read better without your eye balls. Those that claim it does are just "whistling in the dark," they have made a mistake and now they are telling themselves that they are "improved", they want to belive that they have not been mutilated, but they will learn someday that they have a wound that will never heal.

I was cut "tight", all that does for you is painful erections and practically no feeling during sex.

What you have on your penis is not causing your problem, the problem is from what has been cut off, cutting more off will not solve anything. But if you are a self-hater, you may get some pleasure in having more of your penis cut off, some guys hate their maleness so much they don't stop with circumcision and they even have their testicles removed.

Circumcision is mutilation!
Reply:Your first statement is rather ironic because you got an infection anyway (infections are a lot more common than most people are willing to admit). I would first be concerned about the infection and make sure you get medication for that (usually an oral antibiotic or an antibiotic cream).

There many be swelling for a couple days/weeks even after the wound has completely healed. When the swelling goes down the skin should too. Regardless, it appears that you had a "loose" circumcision where there is still some foreskin left that erections should be comfortable and there is some mobility in the skin on your shaft.

It sucks that you get no pleasure from masturbation now. If you were masturbating the same as you did before your circumcision, that might make sense. You may just need to change how you masturbate. For a lot of circumcised guys they prefer using some kind of lubrication (usually saliva or hand lotion) and rub the penis head as that's the most sensitive part left. So if you focus there you might get more pleasure.

There is a surgery to reduce the skin further and that's called a circumcision. You probably don't want to have that done, as that'll just remove more nerve endings and make the skin tighter, which could lead to painful erections. It's best to accept what you have now and make the most of it.

If you're really really unhappy with the lack in pleasure, you could consider foreskin restoration. It won't restore the nerve endings that were cut away, but it'll preserve the sensitivity in the head and you'll have the feeling of a foreskin moving back and forth - so it'll be almost as good. You can find info on non-surgical foreskin restoration if you enter it into any search engine and look for a while; most involve stretching the remaining skin over the head for long periods of time. So if you're willing to do this, be aware that you'll need a lot of patience and dedication, as it will take 1-3 years.

I hoped this helped and honestly, it could be worse in so many ways.
Reply:At least your parents did eventually have you circumcised, so you can be glad of that, although from what you say, your circumcision is a loose one, where not enough skin has been removed. Go to your doctor and ask about having a recircumcision to remove the "Bunch of extra skin" that remains - you'll be fine after that!

Dry Skin or just change in temperture or what?

One day out of the blue, this weird all of a sudden a bunch of small bumps were all over my cheeks and on my chin. They were really small and barely visible, but you could tell that they were there if you looked close enough. The bumps weren't red and they didn't hurt at all.

I never had any zits or anything when I was younger, so this is really abnormal.

I tried to was my face really good, put lots of lotion on it, anything and everything that I could think of I tried... no luck.

My face stayed like that, for two to three days they the small bumps turned into dry skin.

I was just wondering what is going on with my skin. And what I could do to help the dry skin and make the rest of the bumps go away.

Thanks.

Is it possible to get completely smooth skin if you've had a history of acne..?

I used to have acne when I was younger, but I've kind of grown out of that stage. Now my skin is kind of bumpy (it's really noticable in pictures) but I don't really have huge, red pimples anymore...is there any way I can get 100% smooth skin??

Is it possible to get completely smooth skin if you've had a history of acne..?
My son had the worst cystic acne you can even imagine.......his face, back, chest, arms, all horrible. I had him take accutane, and he has the most beautiful complexion you can imagine! The scars are gone, not a hint that his skin EVER had a problem. Accutane............it's a miracle.
Reply:I knew girl that guy her face scrubbed or something like that. She had acne scars really bad and it slowly smoothed her skin.
Reply:I believe microdermabrasion is your best bet. If you have severe scars, you may not be able to complete eliminate them, but microdermabrasion will definitly improve your skin and give it substantial smoothness. Good luck
Reply:Use toothpaste

Keep your hair up....I rubbed toothpaste on my face... wash it off after 10 minutes.... then you'll notice a difference....
Reply:Yes just wear face lotion.

i still get SOME acne and i have used proactiv before but that is just my stage in life. maybe you should see someone speacialized in miscrodermabrasions or something.

hope i helped. =]
Reply:You could go the extreme route and get some resurfacing done with a chemical peel. That's probably the most effective thing to do.

Temporary fixes: Cle de Peau Pore Refining Stick reduces a textured appearance. Laura Mercier Moisturizer is very very healing.

Reply:My girlfriend is a liscensed dermatologist with an M.D. Find one in your area...NOT a spa...I mean a real doctor....have them check out your face and they will tell you waht you need. I went and everyone told me get microdermabrasion and my friend said I needed a light glycolic peel and a light microdermabrasion so they did it....and my skin looks ten times better with just one treatment...so forget over the counter crap go to the doctor and you will be very pleased. It is so worth a couple hundred bucks to have your confidence back along with glowing skin. Good luck!!

Reply:microdermabrasion at a spa
Reply:Neutrogena makes a good microdermabrasion kit. It is a lot cheaper than getting one from a spa or dermatoloist. You should give yourself a microdermabrasion about once a week or once every other week. You also could talk t a dermatologist and see what they recommend.
Reply:Kinda had a similar problem, but mine was just pimples...not acne...and I had quite alotta scars...red marks...so my dermatologist suggested IPL...and it works...you may wanna try it too...but make sure ur beautician or whoever you go to is reliable...or you may just wanna consult w a dermatologist to find the best cure for ur problem. Good Luck

I would like to hear from anyone who has knowledge of the rare skin disorder, osteoma cutis. And treatments.?

Osteoma cutis is little bits of calcium deposits under the skin (mine is where I had acne when I was younger.) I had dermabrasion many years ago, but the condition recurred because of the time it took for healing...it forms in scar tissue.

Background: Strictly defined, osteoma cutis refers to the presence of bone within the skin in the absence of a preexisting or associated lesion, as opposed to secondary types of cutaneous ossification that occur by metaplastic reaction to inflammatory, traumatic, and neoplastic processes.

Pathophysiology: Bone arises in skin and soft tissues through mesenchymal (membranous) ossification without cartilage precursors or models (enchondral ossification, as in the skeletal system).

The lesions of osteoma cutis differ from tumoral calcinosis in that they represent bone formation, and calcinosis refers to calcium salt deposits.

In addition to colonic polyposis, epidermal cysts of the face and the scalp, and multiple fibromas, osteomatosis in the form of intraosseous (not cutaneous) osteomas may develop within the membranous bones of the head in Gardner syndrome.

Frequency:

In the US: Although said to be rare, with no well-defined data on the incidence, a plethora of conditions and syndromes may be found in association with osteoma cutis, and the frequency of its occurrence varies accordingly. Primary lesions with no underlying cause are even more rare, but they account for approximately 20% of all cases.

Mortality/Morbidity: Osteoma cutis is not life threatening, although local discomfort and/or disfigurement may lead the patient to seek consultation.

Race: No race is predisposed to develop osteoma cutis.

Sex: Generally, no distinct sexual predominance exists. However, one cause of osteoma cutis, Albright hereditary osteodystrophy, occurs with a female-to-male ratio of 2:1.

Age: Osteoma cutis may occur at any age.

History:

Patients may report having hard areas in the skin.

A familial occurrence of Albright hereditary osteodystrophy may be present.

Physical:

The presentations of osteoma cutis can be highly variable, with clinical entities that are defined by the number, the form, and the location of the lesions.

Osteomas may present as single or multiple, extremely hard nodules, plaques, or miliary tumors.

The face, the extremities, the scalp, the digits, and the subungual regions are the most commonly affected sites.

Causes: Osteoma cutis is a feature in several groups of patients.

Albright hereditary osteodystrophy, which includes most patients with pseudohypoparathyroidism and pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism, is due to an autosomal dominant defect in the alpha subunit of intracellular guanyl nucleotide-binding protein (G protein).

The characteristic phenotype includes short stature, a round face, defective teeth, mental retardation, brachydactyly, and osteomas of the soft tissue and the skin.

Tetany is often the presenting sign of pseudohypoparathyroidism, formerly called Albright hereditary osteodystrophy. In addition to skeletal system abnormalities, lesions of osteoma cutis are frequently observed.

Single, small osteomas, arising later in life, sometimes with transepidermal elimination of bony fragments may be a cause.

Multiple, miliary osteomas of the face, following acne, neurotic excoriation, or dermabrasion is a possible cause.

Congenital plaquelike osteomatosis or limited dermal ossification is generally present from birth; the skin of the scalp or the extremities is often affected.

Fibrodysplasia ossificans heteroplasia and fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva are possible causes.

Miscellaneous rare disorders with or without cartilaginous elements include osteomas of the distal extremities and multiple osteomas of childhood unrelated to Albright hereditary osteodystrophy.

Lab Studies:

Serum calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels help to define Albright hereditary osteodystrophy.

Imaging Studies:

Plain radiographs demonstrate lesions but are not necessary for diagnosis.

Procedures:

Excisional biopsy for diagnosis, relief of discomfort, or cosmesis may be performed.

Histologic Findings: Small spicules to large masses of mature bone are found in the dermis or extend into the subcutaneous tissue. Spicules of bone may enclose areas of mature fat, recapitulating a medullary cavity, but hematopoietic elements are seldom observed (see Image 3).

TREATMENT Section 6 of 9

Author Information Introduction Clinical Differentials Workup Treatment Follow-up Pictures Bibliography

Medical Care:

Removal by excision or laser resurfacing to unroof overlying skin may be performed. Treatment with the Er:YAG laser may result in less hypopigmentation and scarring than with the carbon dioxide laser.

Other reported treatments with unproven efficacy include the following:

Topical application of tretinoin to provoke transepidermal elimination

Etidronate disodium taken orally

Consultations: When several lesions are noted, especially in pediatric patients, evaluation for associated syndromes may be warranted. FOLLOW-UP Section 7 of 9

Prognosis:

Osteosarcoma or other malignancies have not been reported to arise within osteoma cutis.
